![]() Aims of Eco Farm Project:
How to get involved:
In June 2002 a fully functional Eco-farm was developed adjacent to Sunshine House. Cambodia is a heavily Agricultural based society and one of our more innovative advances in the development of Sunshine House was the establishment of the Eco-farm. It is enabling us to develop useful skills in the children, produce food and create longer term self sufficiency. Our children have been able to train in different facets of day to day farm operations and more importantly develop an awareness of areas that might interest them. At a latter date these areas can be further encouraged and pursued. Included in the Eco-farm project are livestock such as pigs, ducks, geese and chickens which are located in custom built buildings at the farm. Crops currently grown include - cabbages, long bean, egg plant, water spinach, banana, coconut, mango and sapodilla trees. All facets of the farm are aimed at being environmentally friendly, recyclable and self-sustaining. It uses initiatives such as solar power, organic fertilizer, sustainable water use and the production of bio-gas from pig excrement for cooking. |
