 The final step in helping our children change Cambodia's future Background: Graduation House is our most recent major project, located in Phnom Penh and it provides the opportunity for those of our young adults completing their high school education at House of Progress to enter the final step in their journey. It provides our young adults with a place to live independently while attending university or technical training, while remaining within the supportive structure of Awareness Cambodia. Graduation House is the culmination of many years of training and developing orphaned children. We rescue an orphaned child from the slums or remote rural areas where they are prey for exploitative business owners, child traffickers and brothels. Often our children arrive at Sunshine House having suffered abuse, are malnourished and it’s not unusual for them to be covered in sores. After years of love, care and devotion at Sunshine House and House of Progress they end the journey at Graduation House. By this time these abandoned orphaned children have grown into young adults and are ready to undergo their final training at Phnom Penh universities and become the next generation of professionals in Cambodia. Once graduated they too will play their role in the “rebuilding the children of Cambodia”. Currently our Graduation House students live in temporary rented premises. We have faced many challenges at our rented Graduation House in Phnom Penh and the good news is we’ve finally sourced land close to the city centre and building is soon to commence. The land will house a central operations hub, a training centre and most importantly provide secure purpose built premises for Graduation House. This centre gives Awareness Cambodia a secure and long term foothold for our projects in Phnom Penh. At present our Graduation House students are studying such disciplines as Civil Engineering, Accountancy and Design. Graduation House provides a seamless structure for our children to progress into well adjusted and educated adults. Graduation House student - Chumrarn's story:
"Chumrarn Kith currently studies Civil Engineering and lives at Graduation House. Chumrarn lost his parents to HIV at age 10, which led to his removal from school and being sent to live in a Buddhist monastery. In 2000, he and his two younger siblings, Lida and Samreth came to live at Sunshine House, where they found safety, shelter and most importantly resumed their education.
