Hello from Cambodia,

It’s Kim Hewett and I am so proud of the job that Awareness Cambodia does. I wanted to send you updated photos of Baby Makara whom Awareness Cambodia rescued in July 2011. When we collected Makara in July click here; and Makara now, 6 months later click here

This precious baby boy is alive today because of the dedication of the Awareness Cambodia team and the wonderful supporters who allow us to be their hands and feet on the ground in Cambodia.  His story is told best in the before and after photos and below is a brief outline of his story.   Thank fully, Makara’ story that has only just begun! 

Our youngest baby at Sunshine House - Makara

Makara Meoun is the new edition to our Sunshine House community.

Born 7 January 2011, Makara has suffered countless hardships. During just 11 months of his short life he has witnessed his father pass away, his mother abandon him, and his grandparents unsuccessfully attempt to help him.

When Makara came to us at just seven months old, he suffered from malnourishment, a zinc deficiency, pneumonia and an enlarged heart. We were concerned that his mental capacity had been affected due to malnourishment, and weren’t sure he would even survive.

 But after extensive medical treatment and daily physiotherapy, Makara’s future is positive. With the support of Awareness Cambodia, Makara was rescued from certain death and now lives at Sunshine House with a bright future ahead of him.
